SEO Tips – Commenting Commenting Commenting

One of the things I have learned about SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and page rank is you have to get the word out about your site. You have to leave comments on other sites and ask people/websites to link back to your site.

Here is my routine to make sure I comment:

1. After I write a post, I will do a search for the subject I am writing about.
2. For the top hits, I open the sites to see if I can leave a comment.
3. If there is a place to leave a comment I will leave a nice constructive comment on the page and leave my website. If they dont have for a website, I will leave my website at the end of the post.
4. Leave a comment on at least three to five websites.
5. Modify your searching if you have to to find sites at the top of the hits list so you can leave a comment.

This will give you a better ranking since the search engine will think your link is important because it sees it on an important page. I have dont his on almost every post of mine and I have seen the results. Give it a try.

You will be amazed that once you get going. You do a search for keywords from your search, you will start to see it at the top almost everytime. You may see it in the the top 30 hits, but over time you will see it in the top 10. Sometimes you will be #1 but not likely until you work on your rank. Some sites similar to yours will always be on top because they have established themselves.

Setting up a blog

So you have a niche and you are ready to get started ! Here is what you will need to do:

1. Register your domain – Check and see if your domain is available. For instance if you want to blog about digital cameras, then think of a clever domain. Go to a service provider (we use blue host) and enter your domain name. Most likely your first choice will not be available. Be prepared to come up with an alternative. For this blog I originally wanted Bloghelp.com but it was not available, I settled for Blogger911.com.
2. Pick a hosting plan – When you register for a domain, you will most likely need a hosting plan. The hosting plan will host your blog. This is where you save your pages and information. It will depend on your blogging platform but usually a UNIX Host that can run Wordpress is the best option.
3. Decide on your blogging platform or software – One of these most popular is WordPress. It is free software. I use WordPress and it is an easy program to maintain and use. Once you get started it will be like riding a bike.
4. Start blogging – Wait…technically after you install WordPress you will be able to start blogging. However, there are a couple of things that you should do like getting a word press theme, optimizing your blog, monetizing your blog, etc… Your word press theme is essential, it is the look and feel of your blog.

Getting Started

You have come to this website because you need help with getting a blog started. Where do you start ? First you must come up with an idea. Come up with a “niche”. A niche is a specific topic that you will blog about. For example you may decide to blog about Electronics. This is not a good idea ? Why ? Its because it is too broad. There would be too much to cover. Your niche has to be specific, for instance Digital Cameras, DVD Players, HDTV, etc… You get the point.

When choosing a topic also, you may want to also consider how popular the topic is. You may want to do a quick search on the search engines to determine what kind if someone else and how many people already are blogging about your niche. You may want to search for Digital Camera Blogs, you will see the search results and the number of hits. Its 21.3 million hits for Digital Camera Blogs, by the way. That is your competition. You may want to narrow your niche down to Digital Camera Lens Blog. There are 2.87 million its for that search, much smaller but still alot of competition.

Im not trying to discourage you but you really have to think about a topic and do your research. But if you think you have an idea that will work give it a try ! But dont just pick a topic because of the competition. Pick a topic you are passionate about and that you know really well. Blogging is essentially to show how much of an expert you are to a topic.
